Building a bridge between students and blockchain technology.

Web3 is an industry filled with opportunities, but for many students, getting started can feel overwhelming. Without structured educational programs in schools, aspiring developers are left to figure things out on their own.

This is where Web3 communities step in. RJay Solamo, co-founder of Web3 Davao, has made it his mission to introduce students to blockchain technology through grassroots education and hands-on learning.

A Gap in Education

Despite the growing presence of blockchain technology, many schools in the Philippines still hesitate to incorporate it into their curriculum. Solamo sees this as a major barrier to entry for students who want to explore careers in Web3.

Convincing institutions to embrace Web3 education requires strong proposals and persistent efforts. Web3 Davao aims to bridge this gap by offering students alternative learning opportunities that aren’t available in traditional classrooms.

Empowering Students Through Web3 Davao

Web3 Davao was founded on the belief that access to blockchain education shouldn’t be limited to those with tech degrees or industry connections. Through workshops, hackathons, and community collaborations, Solamo and his team introduce students to the fundamentals of blockchain and Web3 development.

By making blockchain education more accessible and engaging, Web3 Davao has helped students gain hands-on experience that would otherwise be difficult to access through conventional schooling.

Why Community Support Matters

In the 2024 Consensys Web3 survey with YouGov, at least 46% of Filipino respondents had heard about cryptocurrency and understood what it was. However, awareness does not always translate to active participation in the space. Many still find the industry intimidating or lack the resources to get started.

For Solamo, Web3 communities are essential to bringing in fresh talent and breaking down the barriers that prevent students from getting involved. Events like hackathons and boot camps create opportunities for aspiring developers to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.

"Important sa hackathon po, sir... Yung nagturo sa amin, mga professional kasi."

(What’s important in hackathons is that the people teaching us are professionals.)

Through mentorship, collaboration, and networking, students gain the confidence and skills needed to thrive in the Web3 industry. By fostering these communities, Solamo and Web3 Davao are paving the way for the next generation of blockchain innovators.
