Join Rubz Comms as he unpacks blockchain’s transformative history—from Vitalik Buterin’s early vision to today’s scalable, cost-effective solutions on BASE.

Rubz Comms, head of the Davao DeFi Community, took the stage to share a captivating overview of blockchain’s evolution—a journey that has led from the early days of Ethereum to today’s innovative Layer 2 solutions like BASE.

He explained that Ethereum was co-founded by Vitalik Buterin in 2013 and officially launched in 2015. This groundbreaking platform introduced smart contracts—self-executing programs that laid the foundation for decentralized finance (DeFi) and countless new applications. According to Rubz, Ethereum’s success was not just about innovation but also about community.

"There's a saying that you won't reach your goal if you don't look at the past."

He also highlighted a key aspect of Ethereum that continues to inspire developers today: its decentralized nature. Rubz pointed out that Ethereum’s network—powered by numerous validator nodes—has grown increasingly decentralized over time.

He mentioned practical initiatives like solo staking, which now allow anyone, regardless of the amount of assets they hold, to participate.

"Everyone can solo stake now. You don't need to be a whale."

This simple yet powerful idea reflects his belief that blockchain should be accessible to all, not just the wealthy.

Moving forward, Rubz discussed the challenges that emerged as Ethereum gained popularity. The ICO boom and the subsequent rise of DeFi exposed significant scalability issues. He recalled how, during the ICO era, a large number of white papers were published—many promising revolutionary technologies that never came to fruition.

"Around 80% of the white papers being published are not being built, or not being launched."

This observation underscores a recurring theme in the blockchain space: the gap between promise and practical execution.

To address these challenges, Rubz explained the role of Layer 2 solutions, which were developed to ease congestion and reduce high transaction fees on Ethereum. BASE, one of the most promising Layer 2 platforms, offers a way to maintain Ethereum’s security while delivering faster and more cost-effective transactions.

Rubz emphasized that the future of blockchain lies in building upon these foundations—leveraging the lessons learned from Ethereum’s early days to create platforms that can support mass adoption.

By bridging the gap between Ethereum’s trailblazing past and the cutting-edge innovations of today, Rubz Comms demonstrated that the journey of blockchain is far from over—it’s just entering a new, exciting chapter with platforms like BASE leading the way.

In sharing his insights, Rubz not only educated the audience on the technical progression of blockchain but also inspired them to look ahead and consider their role in this transformative era. His call for learning from the past and building for the future continues to shape the conversation around scalable, decentralized finance in Ethereum, Davao, and beyond.
